LOYSVILLE - Elwood Stanley "Woody" Hench, 86, of Loysville, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2015 in his home with his family by his side.
Elwood was born October 10, 1928 in Kistler to the late Stanley and Evelyn (Stuber) Hench. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Lucille (Hench) Frank.
He was a World War II Air Force veteran and was a mechanic, serving in the Berlin Airlift Campaign.
He was retired from Interstate Milk Producers/Land O'Lakes, Arden Mills, MN.
He was a member of New Hope United Church of Christ, Landisburg and the church Consistory; Tyrone Township Supervisor; Landisburg Lions Club; Honory Chapter Member of Future Farmers of America and the Agricultural Advisory Committee. He was on the Board of Directors for the U.C.C. Homes and a Board Member for the Loysville Municipal Sewer Authority and Advisory Board Member for the First National Bank of Mifflintown.
Surviving are his wife, June M. (Shindler) Hench, three children, Allen E. Hench and his wife Ellen of Newport, PA and Charlottsville, VA; Connie L. Houck and her husband Dale of Duncannon; Kirk R. Hench and his wife Sondra of Loysville; three brothers, John Hench and his wife Jennie of Centre Hall; Mark Hench and his wife Barb of Mechanicsburg; Dean Hench and his wife Barb of Loysville; 5 grandchildren, Dave Glaser and his wife Jory, Derek Hench and Ashley Martz, Erin Glinski and her husband Matt, Stefan Hench and Andriana Hench and 4 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 11, 2015 in the New Hope United Church of Christ, 108 S. Carlisle Street, Landisburg, Pa. 17040 with the Rev. Joshua D. Craley officiating.
Visitation will be from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM Wednesday in the church.
Burial with military honors by the Perry County Honor Guard will be at 12:15 PM in the Restland Cemetery, Loysville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central PA., 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, Pa. 17110 or ALS Association, 321 Norristown Road, Suite 260, Ambler, Pa. 19002 or to the New Hope United Church of Christ, P. O. BOX 343, Landisburg, Pa. 17040.
