Funeral Mass for Paula Lenore Gardner, 70, will be celebrated from St. Peters Catholic Church, Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment follows in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Parish Vigil Service will be conducted Monday evening, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m. from the Anaconda Chapel of KT Riddle Funeral Homes, where Visitation with family will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. She died Thursday evening, Dec. 14, 2006, at Community Hospital of Anaconda.

Paula was born on Nov. 26, 1936, in Butte, to James Emmett and Mary Pauline (Peck) Gardner, the second of nine children. She was raised in Anaconda, where she attended grade school and graduated from Anaconda High School in 1955, she continued her education at Northern Montana College in Havre.

Paul lived and worked in San Francisco for a number of years, working as a Certified Nurses' Assistant and as a teacher's aide. She returned to Anaconda in the early 1980s, where she spent the rest of her life.

She was a giving and adventurous spirit. When she was younger she traveled alone all over the world, some of the places she experienced were Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti, England, Spain, Italy, New York and numerous places around the United States visiting her many relatives.

She adored her family and spent much of her later years in life crafting personalized blankets, stuffed animals, wall-hangings, paintings and birthday cards for her many sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. She loved creating and sharing her artworks, which she did with her family and the Copper Village Art Center.

One of her most notable characteristics was her unfailing memory; she could remember the exact birth dates, ages and grades of all her family and extended family throughout the years. She never failed to send you a handmade note. Whenever you visited her, you never walked away without a gift from her. She made her family feel very loved.

While her health was good, she regularly attended St. Peters Catholic church, and was a member of the Anaconda Catholic Community, she was a kind and unique woman who will be greatly missed.

Paul spent the last few months of her life at Hearthstone, where she was a big fan of the kind staff and delicious meals.

Memorials are requested to Hearthstone Apartments of Anaconda.

Survivors include her mother Mary Gardner of Anaconda; brothers and sisters and their spouses, Jamie Larsen of Bellevue, Wash., Patty (Jim) White of Helena, Theresa (Ed) Wolahan of Longmont, Colo., Jim Gardner of Anaconda, Kathleen (Tom) Kelly of Columbus, Clint (Ree) Gardner of Geneva, Ill. Also survived by her many nieces and nephews she adored, Jeannie Clark, John Larsen, Suzie Leth, Katie Curey, Kirk Van Alstyne, Bill Van Alstyne, Sean White, Dan Larsen, Mary Erin Thompson, Kristina Wolahan, Laura Gaibler, Teddy Wolahan, Marcy Bautista, Lisa Gardner, Tara McConnell, Miki Gratzer, Aimee Wolahan, Neil Van Alstyne, Angela Gardner, Clint Gardner, Carissa Gardner, Andrew Wolahan, Nicholas Kelly, Jonathan Kelly, Joel Wolahan, Joshua Gardner and Jamie Kay Gardner.

She was preceded in death by her father; two sisters, Mary Ann Van Alstyne and Margaret Joan Gardner; and brother-in-law Ray Larsen.
