Rebecca "Becky" Emma Shell Woods, Hickory, NC, age 80, of Hickory, passed away, Friday, September 23, 2016 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.
Becky was the first born child to the late Thomas William Shell and Mary Annie Gross Shell on April 8, 1936. She was preceded in death by sisters Mary Janette Shell Teague and Cornelia Shell Talley Coleman.
Survivors include her husband, Dean F. Woods of 58 years; son Nicholas Woods of Hickory; a special nephew William Paul Teague, Jr. of Lincolnton. Other survivors include Pamela Annette Elliott of Hildebran, and Melody Talley of Tacoma, WA.
Becky was a retired teacher, having taught for 30 years in the Catawba County Schools of St. Stephens and Clyde Campbell Elementary Schools. Becky was a mascot for Hickory High School for the class of 1940. In fact, she was the last mascot they had and was a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne University.
Becky loved music, having played the organ at her church, West Hickory Baptist Church, for 25 years from the late 1950's until the mid 1980's. She loved to do crafts and enjoyed traveling with her husband in their Airstream camper. She and Dean were members of the Carolinas and Piedmont NC Unit WBCCI (aka the Airstream Club).
Becky was also a member of the Hickory Tavern Chapter of the DAR since 1985.
Becky joined her lifelong church, West Hickory Baptist Church at the age of 10. She sang in the different church choirs while growing up.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 26, 2016 at West Hickory Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Frady officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 – 2:00 p.m. at the church.
