James was the fraternal twin to Margaret Louella Adams.

Parvin left home at age 28 to find gold out west, leading to his unfortunate death. James got caught in a snowstorm in Colorado in March 1887 and fatally contracted pneumonia. His father John came out to retrieve him, but Parvin died before John arrived.
