Phyllis Trotter-Meekins was swept up and away with the angels on Friday, September 16, 2016 at the age of 95 in Gary, Indiana and is now residing in the house of the Lord. She was born on February 10, 1921 to the late William H. and Maybelle Jenkins-Meekins born third of seven children in Toano, James City County, Virginia.

Phyllis was affectionately known as "Curly" and was adored by all who knew her. She received her education at Bruton Heights School in Williamsburg, Virginia. Phyllis spent her teenage and early adult life in Baltimore, Maryland and Bronx, New York then finally on to Gary, Indiana in the mid 1940's is where she met and married her husband W. Trotter and making Indiana her home is where she resided until her death.

While residing in Indiana Phyllis was self-employed in the food industry operating her very own business preparing, cooking and serving meals in her community for many years until her health declined. At an early age she confessed her faith in the Lord and joined Christ Baptist Church, Gary, Indiana where she served as a charter member. She was a faithful servant until her passing.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband W. Trotter, her only child a son; Eugene B. Meekins Sr, her daughter in law; Bernice Crump-Meekins, her granddaughter in law; Debra Jackson-Meekins, her three brothers; Aston Meekins, John Meekins and Albert Meekins, her three sisters; Hazel Meekins-Nash, Blanche Meekins-Washington and Charlotte Meekins-Reid and her aunts and uncles.

Loving and cherishing her memory forever are her two grandchildren; Eugene B. Meekins Jr. of Paterson, New Jersey and Candace Berkley of Williamsburg, Virginia. Her five great grandchildren; Ramel Meekins and Rashima Meekins of Tea Neck, New Jersey, Zion Berkley, Ashanti Berkley and Arianna Berkley of Williamsburg, Virginia and one great-great grandchild; Sariyah Meekins of Tea Neck, New Jersey.

Phyllis will always be treasured by her favorite nephew; Wardell Williams of Seaboard, North Carolina and her favorite niece; Glenda Chester of Baltimore, Maryland, a very special friend and devoted caretaker; Nellie Moore of Gary, Indiana and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many caring friends.

All Services will be Friday, September 23, 2016 Visitation 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with services beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Baptist Church 4700 E. 7th Ave Gary, Indiana. Rev. Lawrence E. Robertson, Officiant. Interment Fern Oaks Cemetery.
