Thomas Peyton Lee was one of 15 children of James Lee and Cinderella Sellars. This Lee family was one of the earliest familes to settle in Appling County (now Bacon Co.) probably around 1820 (more research needed) James Lee was from North Carolina. He was the son of John Lee, a Revolutionary soldier, born in 1755 in Johnston, North Carolina and died in 1836 in Echols County, GA.

Enlisted on 3/4/1862 as a Private.

On 3/4/1862 he mustered into "F" Co. GA 11th Battn St Gd Infantry
He was transferred out on 5/12/1862

On 5/12/1862 he transferred into "F" Co. GA 47th Infantry
