She was born on June 18, 1930 in Tulsa, OK, a daughter of the late Edgar Wilson and Ethel Steele Harris.
Polly was a graduate of Magnolia High School, She was a homemaker, a clerk with McCrory's 5 & 10, a telephone operator with C&P Telephone, and was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, New Martinsville, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene N. "Gene" Herrick; son David Nicholas Herrick; infant sons Michael, Philip, and Paul; one sister, Sarah Margaret "Peggy" Gomez.
She is survived by her children; grandchildren; and great grandchildren.
Polly was extremely fond of her children and their families. She instilled a love of all animals, great and small, but especially cats and dogs. She and Gene raised their large family while also raising a large garden, making gardeners out of all of them. Polly furthered her education after high school through a life-long love of reading, crossword puzzles and cryptograms.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday with rosary devotions at 7:30 p.m. at the Grisell Funeral Home, 751 Third St., New Martinsville.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 21 Rosary Road, New Martinsville, with Fr. John McDonough as celebrant.
Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Memorial Park, New Martinsville.
In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to make a memorial donation to their local animal shelters or Humane Society in Polly's name.
