Mary Webb passed away December 10, 2006, at the Life Care Center, Ritzville, WA. She was born to Alexander and Anna Elizabeth (Hartung) Miller on May 13, 1910 in Tacoma, WA. At the age of five months, she moved with her family to a farm thirteen and one half miles northwest of Ritzville, WA. She attended Willis rural grade school and graduated from Ritzville High School in 1929. Mary worked as a secretary-clerk at the Ritzville High School where she met her future husband, James W. Webb who had come to fill the position of agriculture teacher. They were married June 5, 1938 in Ritzville, WA. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Ruth Maureen, Max James, and Mary Susan. Mary enjoyed being a faculty wife and took an active role in their children's activities whether they were school, church, music, dance, scouts, or service related. Mary was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She assisted with Bible Schools, teaching Sunday school, attending and leading women's circles, and taking and writing to her children at Camp Twinlow. She has also been an active member of Chapter AR of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Mary enjoyed her role as homemaker and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend to many people. Among her favorite activities were reading, sewing, writing, genealogy, and keeping in touch with family and friends. Mary and Jim Webb's home was the central gathering place for both of their families. Both Mary and Jim have provided the moral, educational, spiritual, and ethical guidance for family and friends alike. All who came to visit could be assured of a warm welcome, wonderful food, and wise counsel. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim on June 8, 2002, and by her beautiful daughter Ruth Maureen Eckhardt, on January 1, 1982, and all her brothers and sisters. Mary is survived by her son and his wife, Max and Veryl Webb of Forges, Correze, France; a daughter and her husband, Susan and Norman Herdrich of Spokane; her son-in-law, John Eckhardt Sr. of Harrington, WA; five grandsons, five granddaughters; twelve great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at 11:30 AM at Trinity United Methodist Church, Ritzville, WA with Pastor John Hunsberger officiating. Vault Interment will be held at Ritzville Memorial Cemetery, at 11:00 AM. DANEKAS FUNERAL HOME RITZVILLE, WA is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Webb, will lie in state at the Danekas Funeral Home on Friday, from 12 noon to 7 PM. Memorials may be made to the James W. Webb Scholarship Fund at Washington State University Foundation, Pullman, WA 99164, to the P.E.O. Educational Loan Fund or to Trinity United Methodist Church.
