David was born on Nov. 18, 1943, in Medford, Ore., to Howard and Beatrice (Caster) Dow. During his childhood, he traveled with his family to many foreign places that included Japan and Germany, eventually settling in Klamath Falls, Ore., where he attended Klamath Union High School.
In June 1961, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served for three years. After leaving the military, he returned to the Medford area, where he married his first wife, Jennie Smail, and they had two children, a daughter Renee LeJahn Dow, and a son, Travis LaVern Dow.
After divorcing and moving to Redmond, Ore., he met the love of his life, Valerie Jo Drew, whom he married on July 3, 1976, and shared the next 40 years with. They also had a son together, James Burton Dow. David worked as a construction worker, felling timber, a truck driver and was starting his own fishing guide business before becoming ill.
He loved to read almost anything he could get his hands on and enjoyed flying his Cessna airplane, fishing and especially fly fishing, where he even tied his own flies. He volunteered time serving on the Water Board for Terrebonne.
David is survived by his loving wife, Valerie Dow of Terrebonne; sons, Travis Dow of Klamath Falls and James Dow of Lacey, Wash.; and daughter, Renee (husband Chris) Burgdorf of Medford. Other survivors include a brother, Larry (wife Jeanne) Dow and his 10 grandchildren, Raelyn, Tylor, Talon, Jacob, Gabriel, Zach, Kyle, Arthur, Eli and Oliver. He was preceded in death by his parents.
