Walter M. Allison, 71

South Venice, Fla. -- Walter M. Allison, 71, of South Venice, formerly of Georgetown, died Saturday Sept. 7, 1996, at Sarasota (Fla.) Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Chester Dec. 13, 1924, a son of Hilda Goppert Allison of East Liverpool and the late John T. Allison. He was employed in the structural shop at the former Crucible Steel Co. before retiring. He served as a gunner's mate on merchant ships with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was the recipient of a Purple Heart. He graduated from Chester High School in 1943. He was mayor of Georgetown for 10 years and tax collector for 20 years. He was a member of South Side American Legion Memorial Post 952 in Hookstown; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6450 of Chester; Glasgow Masonic Lodge 485; Ancient Accepted Rite, New Castle Consistory; and the South Side Sportsmen's Club. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife of 50 years, Deloris McHaffie Allison; two sons, John P. Allison of Georgetown and Jason M. Allison of Mechanicsville, Va.; a brother, George Allison of Chester; two sisters, Alma Caughey of Campbell, Calif., and Mrs. Robert (Kate) Barker of Calcutta; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Welch Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mill Creek Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
