Mrs. Mary Himes, the oldest citizen in this community (Ladoga) passed away early this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sophia Huntington. Mrs. Himes was 90 years old Jan 30. She was born just North of Ladoga in the little old brick house which still stands. She was the daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Jacob and Salome Harshbarger. Her husband, Daniel H. Himes, preceded her in death 30 years ago, as did 3 children, George Himes, Silas Himes and Mrs. Mollie Hunter. Aunt Mary, as she was known among her friends, was one of the first children to be born in Clark township, where most of her life has been spent. She was a member of the Dunkard Church and was annointed two weeks ago. It is said of Aunt Mary, that on her 90th birthday anniv. she spent the day piecing a quilt block without the aid of glasses, having been blessed with a second eyesight. Mrs. Himes is survived by the following children: Mrs. Salome Watkins of Pasadena, Cal; Mrs. JL Minnich of California; Samuel, John and Sophia Huntington of Ladoga; Writesman Himes of Colorado; Charles Himes of Indianapolis; Charity Brubaker of Evanston Ill; and Mrs. JH Mummert of Logansport. Funeral services will be announced later.
