Chester Lewis, better known as "Gump", 83, of Dahlgren, Virginia was born May 28, 1932 to the late Raymond and Ethel Lewis. He went home to be with the LORD on May 15, 2016 in the presence of his loving family. In his early years, Chester was educated in the King George County Public Schools System. He was a United States Army Veteran who served during the Korean War and later received an honorable discharge. He retired in 1982 after more than 30 years as a Rigger with the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), in Dahlgren, Virginia. Chester also enjoyed working as a maintenance worker, carpenter and painter. An avid fisherman, gardener and hunter, Chester had many interests and hobbies. He LOVED sports. Chester played as a pitcher for the Dahlgren Frog, bowled in the league on the base for many years and was a relentless Washington "Redskins" fan. For many years, Chester was often called upon to provide painting services and perform various handyman tasks for family and friends. He felt no one could do the job as well as he could, and his family and friends agreed. Chester had a heart for God, accepting Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He joined the Little Ark Baptist Church, where he remained a member until his death, participating in many ministries. Prior to his illness, Chester was active in the Usher Ministry, served as a member of the Trustee Board for more than 40 years, and sang in the Young Men's Jubilee and Disciples of Praise choirs. Chester was an active member in a host of social organizations. He was Past Master of the King George Masonic Lodge #314; Past Patron of the Guiding Star Chapter #216; American Legion Post #329; the Fredericksburg Consistory #346; and the Shriner's of Richmond, VA. Two brothers, Joseph and Preston Lewis, preceded Chester in death. He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted and caring wife of 55 years, Evelyn Frenzley Lewis; four daughters: Jacqueline Lewis (friend Howard), Brenda Kennedy (Michael) of King George, VA, Martha George (Steve) of Ashburn, VA and Laverne Bushrod (Tony) of King George, VA. He also leaves a strong legacy with four grandchildren: Leon Sumter, OnDonte' George, Brittany Kennedy and Aaliyah Bushrod, as well as one great-grandchild, Harmony Sumter, whom he so dearly loved. He leaves to mourn three sisters: Dorothy Exum (Nathaniel), Savannah Haliburton, and Roberta Holmes, (Gary). Three brothers: Charles Lewis, Raymond Lewis, and Phillip Lewis. Three aunts: Helen Newman, Ida Jackson (Clarence) and Margaret Tyler; eight sister-in laws; seven brother-in-laws and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
