Ruby Joan (Humes) Aaron, 89, of West Kittanning, formerly of New Bethlehem, died peacefully on Monday, September 19, 2016 at ACMH Hospital, where she received compassionate care from the nurses, nursing assistants and physicians.
Born July 16, 1927 in Town Run, Clarion County, she was the daughter of Roy Bruce Humes and Ruby Elizabeth (Miller) Humes.
Mrs. Aaron graduated from New Bethlehem High School in 1944 and was of the Presbyterian faith. Throughout her life she lived in Elderton from 1955 to 1970, in Johnstown from 1970 to 1990, in New Bethlehem from 1990 to 2014 and in West Kittanning since 2014. She was a hard worker and held various secretarial positions throughout her life, with her most recent position being a teacher's aide at the Ebensburg State School. In addition to working and caring for her family, Mrs. Aaron also found time to give back to others. She was a church deacon and volunteered with many organizations, including hospice in her later years. She loved taking care of her home and enjoyed cleaning, doing laundry, cutting her grass, tending to her flower gardens and making sure her house was welcoming to anyone who stopped by.For many years, she and her husband, Cy, looked forward to spending the winter months in Safety Harbor, Fla. She genuinely loved engaging people in conversation and learning about their lives, and will be best remembered for being a caregiver to others.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Peggy L. Mills and her husband, Rick, of Kittanning, and Barbara A. Costa and her husband, Bill, of Laurel, Md.; grandchildren, Michelle Grooms and her husband, Brian, Michael Mills and his wife, Amy, Sarah Ragusa and her husband, James, and Matthew Costa and his wife, Serena; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Abigail Grooms, Nolan, Mason and Addison Mills, and Nicholas Ragusa; and a loving sister, Barbara Humes Templeton of Mars.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Cyril William "Cy" Aaron, whom she married August 17, 1950 and who passed away January 13, 2005; an infant twin son; two brothers, Bill and Bob Humes; and three sisters, Sally Blake, Ruth Campbell and Donna Kroh.At Mrs. Aaron's request, services will be private.Burial will be in Hawthorn Cemetery.
