Lillie May Flowers was the youngest child of Mary Foster and Ephraim W. Flowers. When she reached adulthood, her sisters had homes of their own or off teaching. She was the one who stayed home and took care of their Mother.

She married Samuel E. Denman on June 2, 1898. Both sons of this union died at birth and are buried side by side. They took in her brothers, Dr. Henry Flowers daughter Maggie Magee Flowers at six days old when her mother died. Never legally adopted, but could not have been loved more. They were blessed with two grandchildren from Maggie and her husband James Milton Ewing.
