The many friends of Charles Ross Morrison for many years a well known resident of Okotoks and Lineham districts will regret to hear of his death which occured at the General Hospital, Calgary, on Thursday, March 13th at the age of 73. The late Mr. Morrison had enjoyed very good health all his life till about 15 months ago when he was taken ill and had to be removed to hospital where he has remained ever since growing gradually worse. His sufferings which were borne without a complaint were very extreme of late.
The funeral was held from the United Church here to the Union Cemetery on Saturday at 2:30 the service being conducted by the Rev. W.J. Kidd. There was a large concourse in attendance conspicuous amongst whom could be seen many old timers. The old familar hymns "Rock of Ages" and "Lead Kindly Light" were sung by choir and congregation.
In giving his address Mr. Kidd mentioned that he had known the late Mr. Morrison for only a short time in comparison with some of his hearers but in that short time he had found that one of his most notable characteristics was his faithfulness to friendship. He was a true friend and a lasting friend to anyone to whom he extended that friendship. From the occasion on which he had first made his acquaintance some years ago he had always felt whenever he met him afterwards that he was meeting a friend who was glad to see him and showed it. It was a quality to be proud of and one that he felt all his friends in the church could appreciate.
After the service in the church was over which was concluded with the playing of the Dead March the procession proceeded to the cemetery where interment took place
The casket was covered with beautiful flowers.
The pallbearers were G.C.S. Paterson, Donald Morrison, J.T. Broomfield, W. Kadey, A. Rowles and R.M. Broomfield.
The late Mr. Morrison was born in Pennsylvania October 20, 1856. He removed with his family to Canada in 1901 settling in the Okotoks district and has practically resided either here or at Lineham ever since with the exception of visits made to his daughter and son. He is survived by a son James of Burdett, Alta., a daughter Mrs. A.G. Malm of Calgary and a sister Mrs. Ida Lincoln of Aberdeen, Wash. His wife predeceased him in 1909.
