Kenneth Lee Akins, retired executive director of National Telecommunications Data Exchange, died peacefully early Monday morning, Sept. 19, 2016. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday, The Fleming Chapel of Broadway Baptist Church. Private family committal at Greenwood. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home. Kenneth Lee Akins was born on Aug. 28, 1930, in Tyler to Wiley and Tina Akins. He was a 1948 graduate of Highland Park High School where he played football. Kenneth attended Baylor University where he met Dolores Vaughan. They married in Hubbard in 1949. The Akinses were longtime members of Broadway Baptist Church where he was a deacon and served as a faithful member. Kenneth was a 1975 graduate of the NACM, Graduate School of Credit and Financial Management at Williams College. Kenneth was preceded in death by Dolores in 2009. Survivors: His son, Allan Akins and his wife, Kelly; his daughter, Jane Kipgen and her husband, Paul; grandchildren, Katie Randermann, Chris Kipgen, Brian Akins and Emily Akins; great- grandchildren, Stephen and Madelyn Randermann; foster granddaughter, Sara Martinez and her son, Noah Wiley Pongratz; brother-in-law, Dr. A.D. Campbell and his wife, Betty Jo.
