Son of Mrs. Ruby North who resided in Terryville, Connecticut.

Arthur served as a Seaman First Class, U.S.S. Sterett (DD-407), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Litchfield County, Connecticut prior to the war.

The U.S.S. Sterett, while in the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal, was caught in a deadly crossfire that caused considerable damage.

Arthur was "Killed In Action" in the battle during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Arthur was buried at sea.

Service # 2073537

The Sterett survived the battle and the war. The Sterett earned 12 battle stars, the United States Presidential Unit Citation for the Battle of Guadalcanal and the Battle of Vella Gulf, and the Philippine Republic Presidential Unit Citation for her World War II service.
