Son of Mrs. Louis S. Nordby who resided in Naugatuck, Connecticut.

William served as a Corporal & Radio Operator / Gunner on B-25J #43-27819, 500th Bomber Squadron, 345th Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in New Haven County, Connecticut prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Signal Corps on December 15, 1942 in Hartford, Connecticut. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of electrical machinery and accessories and also as Single, without dependents.

B-25J #43-27819, while on a bombing mission, was hit by enemy anti-aircraft fire over Toyohara Airdrome in Formosa (current day Taiwan) and crashed into the sea and exploded 10 miles due west of Formosa.

William was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
