Dorothy, "Dot," was born to Annie and George Staples in Red Deer, AB. In 1928, the family moved to Cranbrook and established the Staples Dairy. Staples Crescent and Kootenay Orchards Schools are on that site today and were named by Dot.
Dot was well known for her generous spirit, zest for life, as well as being a 50 year member of the Rebekah Lodge, the Royal Canadian Legion, the Catholic Women's Society, the Santa Claus Union, the EK Historical Association and the Senior Citizen's Association. She also enjoyed sports and coached and supported many children's sports.
Dorothy passed away peacefully at her home on March 12, 2007. She was predeceased by her husband Maurice Stanley and her eldest son James Maurice of Prince George. She is survived by two sons, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
