American Director, Writer and Producer. Hanson was an award-winning writer and director known for such films as 'The Hand That Rocks the Cradle' (1992), 'L.A. Confidential' (1997) and '8 Mile' (2002). A former magazine journalist and free-lance photographer, he began his film career in 1970 when he co-wrote 'The Dunwich Horror', followed by 'Sweet Kill' (1973) which he wrote and directed. Among films he would go on to work on were 'The Silent Partner' (1978), 'White Dog' (1982), 'Losin’ It' (1983), 'The Bedroom Window' (1987), 'Bad Influence' (1990), 'The River Wild' (1994), 'Wonder Boys' (2000), 'Adaptation' (2002), 'In Her Shoes' (2005), 'Lucky You' (2007) and 'Too Big to Fail' (2011). Hanson, who won an Academy Award for is adaptation of the noir classic 'L.A. Confidential', last directed the 2012 surfing movie 'Chasing Mavericks', but left the production because of an undisclosed illness. In recent years, he had been suffering from Alzheimer's Disease.
