Helen Beebe, 89, of Fremont, NE died Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE.

Helen was born August 19, 1927 in Fremont to Frank and Agnes (Budin) Potach. She graduated from Fremont High School in 1945 and attended Midland College, now Midland University, for 2 years. Helen married Lawrence Christensen in 1949. They had a son, Troy Christensen. Helen married Phillip Beebe in 1965. He died in 2005.

Helen was employed in Washington, D.C. under the civil service for the Department of Dependents Travel. Later she held jobs in Lincoln, NE. She worked at the State House in the steno pool for the Department of Roads and Irrigation and then was a reporter for Gant Publishing Company. She supplied daily news for their paper, The Legal Reporter. Later, Lancaster County Municipal Court Judge, Edward C. Fisher, employed Helen as his secretary.

Helen was a porcelain artist. She was active in the World Organization of China Painters. She was elected to the office of Nebraska State Presidency, serving in 1988 and 1989. As president, she visited every one of the 24 Nebraska China Painters Clubs to demonstrate and to conduct paint-alongs. She was an active member of the Fremont China Painters.

Helen was a past member of an antique study group, Pastfinders, a branch of Questers National Organization. In 2004, at 77, she completed a UNL study course, qualifying her as a Master Gardener. She wrote articles for the Master Gardeners Newsletter.

She is survived by son, Troy Christensen and wife, Lori of Omaha; step-daughter, Pam Norwood and husband, Jim of Fremont; brother, Robert Potach and wife, Chris of Austin, MN; and 3 grandsons, J.C. Norwood of Fremont, Evan Christensen and Jesse Christensen both of Omaha.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Private family service will be held at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Pastor Peggy McClain will officiate. Visitation Thursday from 5 PM to 7 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Memorials may be given to the YMCA Aquatic Center in Fremont.
