Boyd Wayne Thurman, 79, of Pampa, died September 19, 2016 in Pampa.
Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, September 22, 2016, at Fairview Cemetery, and memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday at Trinity Fellowship with Rev. Steve Rogers, pastor of Trinity Life Church of Plainview, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mr. Thurman was born March 28, 1937 in Fredericksburg to Nathaniel and Anita Kneese Thurman. He graduated from Harper High School in 1955 and moved to Pampa in 1956. Boyd married June Bruce in 1957 in Pampa. The family moved to Amarillo where Boyd worked for Bruce & Sons Moving Company for ten years. They returned to Pampa where he worked for Cabot and Transwestern Pipeline. He was the owner and operator of an oil lease, was a cable tool operator, and in 1999, opened Fireside Comfort Wood Stove Shop. Boyd loved to mow lawns with his grandsons.
Survivors include his wife, June Thurman of the home; daughter, Becky Smith and husband Tommy of Pampa; son, Steve Thurman and wife Sheri of Amarillo; sister, Carrie Jo Butts of West Fork, Arkansas; brother, Larry Thurman of Dalhart; nine grandchildren, Austin Smith and wife Kelly of Edmond, Oklahoma, Brad Smith, Taylor Smith and wife Anna, all of Pampa, Trevor Smith and wife Kelsey of Valley Center, Kansas, Callan Horton and husband Rustin of Pampa, Jeremy Green of Dallas, Colton Thurman and Katlin Mosley and husband Matthew, all of Amarillo, and Blake Roberts and wife Haley of McLean; and 10 great grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Coronado Healthcare Center, and BSA Hospice of the Southwest staff and nurses for their loving care for the past 3 ½ years.
