WALTER SMITHWICK, JR.
Graveside services for Mr. Smithwick will be 11 am Monday, December 22, 1997 at Cedar Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Capra and the Rev. W. L. Baker officiating. Mr. Smithwick, 87, died Friday, December 19, 1997 at Mt. Juliet Health Care. A native of Tullahoma, he resided in Lebanon and worked in the Circulation department for the Tennessean and the Nashville Banner. He was a graduate of Cumberland University. Mr. Smithwick was a veteran of the United States Army and served during World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Lebanon and served as deacon emeritus. Mr. Smithwick was the son of the later Walter and Maude Seagraves Smithwick, Sr. and was preceded in death by his wife Mary Sue Phillips Smithwick who died in 1990. Survivors include his daughter Susan S. (Dr. Stephen K ) Felts of Hermitage; son Dr. Walter (Cornelia C) Smithwick, III of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren Susannah Joy Felts of Carrboro, N. C. , Andrew S. Felts of Knoxville, Mary Elizabeth Fortugno of Franklin, Dr. Walter Smithwick, IV and MIchael Oliver Smithwick of Jacksonville. In lieu of flowers , the family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church in Lebanon. Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home was in charge of arrangments.
