Joseph Frederick "Fred" Amen, 95, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, in Wichita, Kan. Services, with the Rev. Albert May presiding, will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Poteet Funeral Chapel in Pawnee. Interment will follow at Masham Cemetery in Pawnee. Poteet Funeral Home is directing the arrangements. He was born in Pawnee Dec. 13, 1906, to Ezekiel Hennan and Rosie Ellen (Beeson) Amen. He married Verba Inez Oldham June 4, 1935, in Stillwater. In 1987 the couple moved to Wichita. He was a member of the last class to graduate from Oklahoma A and M and taught in Oklahoma and Kansas public schools for 37 years. He was predeceased by his parents, four brothers and two sisters. In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by a daughter, LaVerba Gaulding of Wichita; two sons, Dan Joe Amen of Stillwater and Lloyd Fred Amen of Zuni, N.M.; three granddaughters, Michelle Gaulding of Wichita, Ambre Stirtz of Emporia, Kan. and Janelle Ballard of Stillwater; and a number of relatives and many friends.

He was actually born in Indian Territory as Oklahoma was not a state in 1906. Cryptographer in WWII.
