Our wild and crazy brother left us stunned and heartbroken, but thankful that he is no longer in pain.

Gary was born in Dubuque, Iowa, to Robert and Adele McCormick, who preceded him in death, along with his four-year old niece Kelly McCormick.

Gary was born with congenital dislocated hips, but as a young rock n roller could still “do the watusi like my girl Lucy.” He loved to dance, he loved music, and he loved his profession as a hairstylist. He owned many salons as “Mr. Felix” until the years of standing took their toll. In 2009 and after 14 hip surgeries, Gary moved to Sierra Vista, Arizona, to be closer to family.

He is survived by his brothers, Bob (Maria Luz), Pat (Jan), Bill (Connie), and Terry (Lynette); and sisters, Maureen and Colleen. Though Gary never married, he loved his many nieces and nephews, and I know he thought of them as his own children in many ways.

I will miss his daily phone calls telling me to turn to this channel or that. “Did you hear about it?” He’d ask excitedly. “It’s breaking news!”

Gary, this week your news broke all of us.

God be with you. Kisses to mom and dad.
