MSGT. WILLIAM BALL SR. U.S. Marine Corps, Retired MSgt. William "Bill" Ball Sr. passed away Sept. 11, 2016, at home, from a broken heart and cancer. He was born Feb. 28, 1939, in Rye, N.Y. Bill joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1957, where he met his wife, Connie, and had four children. Bill served in Vietnam, where he received the Purple Heart and many other awards for bravery. The family settled in Las Vegas after he retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1977. He then had various security jobs at different casinos, Timet, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and the Las Vegas 51's baseball organization until he retired in 2015. Bill loved being a Marine, but his favorite pastime was baseball, especially watching his New York Yankees play. He loved any movie with Ann-Margret, a cold beer, listening to the Beach Boys, old country music, westerns, playing video poker and giving his favorite bartenders and waitresses a hard time. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, of 56 years, Connie, who passed away last year and he was never the same. He is survived by sons, Billy, Robert and Bernie; daughter, Laura; son-in-law, Sean Steele; and grandson, Ryan. He will be dearly missed, but we know he's with our mom now. Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday Sept. 24, at La Paloma Funeral Home, 5450 Stephanie St. Next month our parents will be buried together in a private ceremony at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, in Boulder City. In lieu of flowers, please think about helping out a veteran's charity of your choice . Our dad loved being thanked for his service, so please when you see a veteran, active duty service member, police or fireman, tell them, "Thank you for your service." "Semper Fi"
