Eleanor Prude Hart

AYDEN - Eleanor Prude Hart, age 79, of Ayden NC, was finally freed from her sick bed on Monday, September 19, and released into the outstretched arms of her waiting Savior, Jesus Christ. Eleanor was born in Tupelo, Mississippi on July 23, 1937. Her parents were William Garland and Jimmie Lou Prude, and they preceded her in death.

She was originally a member of Tupelo FWB Church and attended schools in the area. Upon graduation she attended Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville, Tennessee. It was there that she caught the eye of a lanky ministerial student by the name of Gordon Hart from Ayden, North Carolina. He told himself that she was the girl he was going to marry. On August 11, 1957 he did just that. They were married for 59 years and he was the perfect illustration of keeping his promised wedding vows. He took excellent care of her throughout her illness and was a great comfort to her.

Eleanor loved being a pastor's wife and they served in churches in Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, and North Carolina. She was a very active member of Women Active for Christ but being a school teacher was one of her strongest roles. She taught for many years at Bethel Christian in Kinston and Trinity Christian in Greenville. She made a difference in the lives of her students and they respected her.

While her true passion was loving the Lord, Eleanor also loved people and they loved her in return. Her true heart beat was for her family. They are her husband and hero, Rev. Gordon Hart; Her daughters, Tanya Hart, of the home, and Cindy Mullis and husband Scott, of Ayden. Her grandchildren completed her life and they are Jeff, Jared, and Julia Mullis, also of Ayden.

She was very much a daddy's girl but her entire family was close. They included her sister, Louise and husband, Paul McCullough, who have also died. Survivors include her sister Dorothy, and her husband Keith Randall, of Greenwood, Mississippi. Her brother, Irvin "Buddy" Prude and wife Ellie, reside in Memphis, Tennessee. Eleanor leaves behind many other family and friends that are sad to lose her here but cheer her arrival in Heaven.

Her home going will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 am at the Grifton FWB Church. Burial will immediately follow at Ayden Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Farmer Funeral Service in Ayden on Friday night from 6 to 8 pm. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the building fund of the Grifton FWB Church, PO Box 537 Grifton, NC 28530 or Advancing His Kingdom at Unity FWB Church in Greenville, NC, 4301 Charles Blvd Greenville, NC 27858.
