Jacob was the son of Jacob Bean, Sr. and his wife Hannah Nelson. He married Jane R. Ford on November 8, 1829, and worked for the Northern New Hampshire Railroad. Jacob and his wife had at least five children, perhaps more:

Arvilla M. Bean, born March 22, 1831, married William Smith on March 17, 1850; died April 11, 1904;

Alvin Chester Bean, born 1837; married Emily Augusta Clough on May 2, 1859; served in the Civil War; afterwards was a railroad conductor and eventually a division head of Vermont Central Railroad; married secondly Georgianna Severance on October 10, 1888; died October 17, 1892, age 56, in Royalton, Windsor County, Vermont;

Nathaniel W. Bean, born 1839; married Hattie Hamlet on November 14, 1860 in East Canaan, New Hampshire; fought in the Civil War; died in Alexandria, Virginia, June 29, 1864,of pneumonia;

Sarah Bean, born 1841; died January 1920 in Canaan, N.H.; and

Frank S. Bean, born 1843; died November 25, 1864, at his home in Enfield, of a gun shot wound received in his thigh, while serving as a Lieutenant in the Civil War.

Jacob C. Bean was a delegate to the Chicago (presidential) Convention and a member of the Governor's Horse Guards, per the Farmers' Cabinet dated February 15, 1861. He died of smallpox in Enfield, N.H.
