Josh was a freshman basketball player at Madison-Grant High School in Fairmount, Indiana. He passed out on December 6th during a basketball practice. It was discovered that Josh had a heart infection. He was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis where he was placed on a ventilator. He died one week later.

He was born in Marion, the son of John and Jennifer ( Chappel) McCormick. He was a straight A student at Madison-Grant High School, where he played tennis and freshman basketball. He played baseball on the Fairmount Summer Recreation League. He played for the Fairmount Dodgers; they were the Tourney Champions for the 2006 season. He played basketball in the Youth Basketball League. He loved his 10 cats and enjoyed paintballing, riding his go-cart and model cars.

He is survived by his parents, John and Jennifer; a brother, Derek McCormick, Summitville; maternal grandparents, Merrill and Doris Chappel, Marion; paternal grandparents, Paul E. and Linda McCormick, Jonesboro; maternal great-grandparents, Merrill and Martha Chappel, Marion; and his best friend, Tyler Kropuenske.

He was preceded in death by paternal grandmother, Beverly McCormick; maternal great-grandparents, Alvin and Betty Amann; and paternal great-grandparents, Edna and Wyatt McCormick.
