Erma M. Gettel, 88, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Monday, September 19, 2016, at her home.

She was born on April 20, 1928 in McConnellsburg, a daughter of the late Norman H. and Eva Winger Alleman. Erma married Jay Gettel on March 11, 1950, also in McConnellsburg, at the same house she was born in.

Erma worked along-side her husband on the family farm and was a homemaker throughout her life. She was a long-time member of the Air Hill Brethren in Christ Church, a former member of the Franklin County Young Farmers, and in her small amount of free time, enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts, music, and singing in the choir.

Erma is survived by eight children, Dale Gettel, Janet Michael, Kenneth Gettel, Arleen Rhoads, Fred Gettel, Dana Gettel, Judy Stine, and Roger Gettel; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; four siblings, Paul Alleman, Mary Lesher, Glen Alleman, and Nelson Alleman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Erma was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Yeager and Anna Rife.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, September 23, 2016, at the Air Hill Brethren in Christ Church, Chambersburg. Pastor’s Leroy Eberly and David Gettel will officiate. Interment will follow in the Air Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg and one hour prior to the service on Friday at church.
