Survivors include children James Brett Hawley and wife Pam of Lexington, TN, Kent Hawley of Pittsfield, IL, Lisa Pontious and husband Kevin of Salem; grandchildren Jordan Pontious, Doug Hawley, John Hawley, Brock Pontious, Ben Thompson, Scott Hawley, Logan Pontious, Krysten Davenport, Sydney Hawley, Lauren Hawley; three great-grandchildren; and brother Bill Hawley and wife Diana of Odin.
Mr. Hawley was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Mildred, as well as his wife, Jeanne.
Jim was a member of the Odin 1st Christian Church. He was devoted to his family and friends. He enjoyed playing basketball, baseball and golf in his younger years and had always enjoyed watching a good ball game. In his later years, he dedicated time researching the Civil War veterans in Peaceful Valley Cemetery and honoring each veteran with a flag on Memorial Day.
Services for Mr. Hawley will be on Wednesday, September 21 at 11:00 a.m. at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Odin with burial following at Peaceful Valley Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by Centralia VFW Post 2055 and American Legion Post 446. Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20 at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Memorials made be made to Disabled American Veterans or Peaceful Valley Cemetery.
