Wife of John Karl Franke
Daughter of August and Louisa Wagner

Aunt Ida was my great aunt. She was one of the sweetest persons I ever knew. She and her husband, Uncle John, my Grandmother Erbes' brother, were both very kind and loving people. They lived on a farm southwest of Reed City. They did not have any children of their own, but they had plenty of nieces and nephews to help with their care. Whenever my Mom was sick, or my parents had to go out of town, Aunt Ida would come and stay with us. She would tell us stories and teach us German words and phrases to say. Now, I truly regret not paying better attention! My youngest sister, Suzanne, did marry a German and lived in Germany for six years. She speaks fluent German. Aunt Ida would be so proud of her! Suzanne is the one in the graduation gown pictured with Aunt Ida.

After Uncle John passed away, Aunt Ida sold the farm and bought a very small home in town. She lived there until around 1970 when she moved into the Senior apartments.

Aunt Ida was like our Grandmother and treated us like her grandkids. Our Grandmother Erbes moved away from Reed City and lived with her two daughters and families in Ann Arbor and Jackson for most of our growing up years. Aunt Ida would spend holidays with us or with the Greins. We have many happy memories of times spent with her.
