Tommy Dan Henderson went into God's Care September 15, 2016.
He was born January 30, 1929 to Thomas E. and Frances Louella (Craig) Henderson. A visitation will be held Tuesday, September 20, 2016 from 4pm-6pm at the Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 12:00pm at the First Christian Church, Lawton. Burial will follow at Fort Sill National Cemetery under direction of Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service.
On June 3, 1950, he married the love of his life Vivion (Shelnutt) Henderson in her family's home in Electra, Texas.Tommy worked for the Santa Fe Railroad until he enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his tour of duty, Tommy worked for the Social Security Administration until he retired in 1986 with 30 years of service. Tommy spent several years after retirement as a SMILE Aide for the Lawton Public Schools.
He was a 50+ year member of the First Christian Church of Lawton, Oklahoma where he served as an Elder, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher for 35 years. He also worked with the Youth Program and numerous other groups at the church. He was a member of NARFE, CCRE, AARP, and the American Legion.
Tommy is survived by his wife Vivion; his sister Francine Mansell of Medira, CA; his son Danny Henderson with wife Gina of Oklahoma City, OK; his daughter Tammy Hicks with husband David of Sherman, TX; Grandchildren- Steven Roll with wife Jessica of Hominy, OK; Megan Barranco with husband Dominic of Muskogee, OK; Keaton Hicks of Fayetteville, AR and Aubrey Hicks of Stillwater, OK; Great Grandchildren – Malakai Roll, Michael Roll, Mason Roll, Sebastian Barranco, Philip Barranco, and Gabriella Barranco. He's also survived by local nieces Corine Roberts and Edna Hennessee as well as numerous nieces and nephews across the United States.
One of Tommy’s greatest joys in life was to entertain small children whenever and wherever they met. We know he is entertaining the children now in Heaven.
