In 1950, his family moved to a small farm in Mitchell and shortly after, Don joined the South Dakota National Guard. On Feb. 1, 1955, Donald enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and during his years of service, he received several service awards and was trained in the electrical occupation.

On May 5, 1956, Don was united in marriage to Carol J. Pulse in Mitchell. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force on July 31, 1961. He settled his small family in Mitchell where he worked at the cement plant and for Coates Electric. In 1963, his skills as an electrician led to the creation of a small family business, Bosworth Electric.

Don retired the family business in 1976 and together Carol and Don traveled west and settled for a short time in Washington and in Rapid City. Their desire to return to their roots brought them back to the Chamberlain area in 1983. Don began working for Cozine Electric and in 1988 for St. Joseph's Indian School as a maintenance electrician until retiring in July of 2005 at the age of 69.

On Nov. 5, 2005, Don was united in marriage to Elaine Engel in Chamberlain where they enjoyed a short but very happy marriage. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and was a generous man when it came to helping others.
