Ernest Eugene “Gene” Wood passed away on September 17, 2016 to start his next adventure in his life up in the Heavens.
Gene was born and raised in Bethlehem, FL by his parents, Evelyn and D.W. Wood. Gene served our country for 20 years where he retired from the Air Force as a Master Sargent. He did not stop there Gene went on to work for the Leon County Jail and retired after 21 years of service. Gene spent the last ten years living in Crawfordville, FL with his loving wife, and was a member of Lake Ellen Baptist Church. He was a great son, loving husband, caring father, wonderful brother and a good friend to all and will be dearly missed.
He leaves behind his wife: Carolyn Wood; mother: Evelyn Wood; two sons: Danny Wood of Holmes County and Darren Wood (Christell) of Leon County; Three stepsons: Ted Reese (Katie), Joshua Eures and Matthew Eures of Wakulla County; Seven grandchildren: Casey Wood, Justin Wood, Kayla Wood, Sidney Eures, Joslyn Eures, Joseph Reese and Samuel Reese; two great-grandchildren: Devin Wood and Wyatt Wood; three sisters: Kay Green, Quida Justice and Judy Anderson; three brothers: Joe Wood, Leroy Wood and Nolan Wood.
He is preceded in death by his father, D.W. Wood in 1998 and sister, Nadine Hudson in 2016.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 21, 2016 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Bevis Funeral Home, Harvey-Young Chapel, 3106 Crawfordville Highway, Crawfordville, FL. The service will be held at 11:30 a.m. with burial at the Tallahassee National Cemetery.
Family and friends are welcome to join us for a short graveside service at 1:00 p.m. where Gene will be laid to rest at the Tallahassee National Cemetery on Apalachee Parkway.
