Medina County Gazette – June 13, 1895: Horrible Accident: Frank Ellis instantly killed on the Wheeling & Lake Erie, near Lodi early Thursday morning. A report from Lodi received here early Thursday morning states that Frank Ellis, a resident of that town was instantly killed at the Wheeling & Erie crossing, just west of town. His body was cut entirely in two. He was driving a buggy, and horse was also killed. The man is about forty years of age and is a son of L. D. Ellis, formerly secretary of the Ohio Farmers Insurance Company. He had just returned from the west where he had been for about ten years, and was employed by A. W. Fullerton as insurance canvasser in Wayne and Medina Counties.

The accident in which Frank Ellis of Lodi was killed, and reported last week, occurred on the Erie road near West Salem instead of the Wheeling & Lake Erie. The funeral was held at his father's home in Lodi, last Friday, and the remains were taken to Westfield for burial.
