Death Certificate: Willis Boyles, resident of and died at Kyana, of smallpox, age 32 years, parents names not recorded, a widower. Burial was May 12th at Mentor.

Another well-developed case of smallpox is reported in the Taylor family near Kyana, this county. Taylor is the father-in-law of Willis Boyles, who died with the disease in Jefferson township some weeks ago. It is stated that a Perry county man broke out with a mild attack of smallpox, attended a public sale recently held at the Taylors place. Dr. Bigham is in charge of this case and the house has been posted and the family quarantined.

Daniel Taylor, administrator of the estate of Willis Boyles, deceased, and guardian of minor heirs, was ordered to the estate at private sale, and report at next term of court.

Willis T. Boyles is counted in the 1900 federal census, despite that the date on record is after his date of death. He is located in Jefferson Township, born June 1866 Indiana, widowed, and children are Bertha E., age 8, and Fred T, age 3.

Indiana marriage index: “Willes Boiles” and Mary E. Taylor were married Oct 26, 1890 in Dubois County.

Mary E. Boyles is listed as buried Mentor Cemetery with a death date of 1898.
