Mark Rowland left this earthly home to be with his heavenly Father on Jan. 3, 2016. He was 63 years old.

Mark was born Oct. 12, 1953, in Poplar, Montana, and lived in Grants Pass, St. Helens, and the Los Angeles area before making Brookings his home.

Mark graduated from Lewis and Clark College with degrees in physical education and health. He received physical and nutritional training from top coaches in the bodybuilding world, where he won titles as an athlete and discovered the keys to wellness.

Mark had many passions in life. He was passionate about health and helping others, and he was pursuing this to the fullest at the time of his departure. He also loved fishing and enjoyed sharing this passion with his friends. Most of all, Mark was a loving father to his two boys, a provider for his family in times of need, and a loving grandfather.

Mark is survived by his son Luke Rowland (Michelle); mother Janet Rowland; sister Marjorie Stine (Bob); and granddaughter Mai Finley Rowland.

Mark was preceded in death by his father Keith Rowland; and son Joshua Rowland.

A celebration of life is planned for 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Best Western Beachfront Inn conference center, 16008 Boat Basin Road, Brookings.

We are shocked and saddened about our loss, but our lives are richer having known Mark.
