Reported age at time of death was 86 years, so evidently born about 1855. Son of James W. & Elizabeth C. (SEAMORE) BARR [Note: death certificate shows mother's maiden name as Elizabeth MULLINS, but that was his wife's maiden name]-- he was born in Columbus, GA, & she in Harris Co, GA. A. Y. died a widower; death certificate reports his wife's name as Elizabeth (no maiden name given). Adam Y. BARR married 10 SEP 1876 in Lee County, AL, to Elizabeth MULLINS.

Mary Jane Galer's list of persons interred in the New Cemetery area of Linwood shows: A. Y. BARR died aged 86 in Atlanta, Georgia, of cancer; buried 02 NOV 1941 in Section C, Lot 828 - Sexton J. B. SHORES.

Per Georgia Death Index: A. Y. BARR, White male, died 31 OCT 1941, aged 86 years, in DeKalb County, Georgia, death certificate #24698.

This grave is evidently not identifiably marked. In her Historic Linwood Cemetery book, volume 3 (edited by Lea Dowd et al.), Dolores Autry put A. Y. BARR & others buried in city C-828 in Lot 186 of her Section K. That lot is one of two lots designated C-828 1/2 in the sexton's burial records (the other being the adjacent WARD/MELTON lot). The lot is a narrow triangular lot. Adam's son Henry Y. BARR & his wife are buried there in a double-deep adult grave, and several infants are also buried in the lot. There's no room for additional graves and it was a mistake for Autry to place the other BARR burials there. They are in the lot Autry designated K-184, where she reported only one child ledger and one infant ledger, neither of which has an inscription.

On 11 JUN 1887, A. Y. BARR paid $25 for Lot 828 in Section C. There does not appear to be an entry for the lot where the Henry Y. BARR family are buried. It should have been designated Lot 827 1/2 in the city records, rather than 828 1/2.

Adam Y. BARR was survived by son J. E. BARR (Sr.) of Decatur, GA; grandchildren Mrs. S. H. DAVIS of Decatur, GA, J. E. BARR, Jr. of Athens, GA, T. O. BARR of Macon, GA, & Sterling BARR of Decatur, GA; and great-grandchildren Bobby and Pat DAVIS, Decatur, Bobby Lou and Johnnie Lynn BARR, Athens, and James BARR, Macon; one brother, Mr. W. A. BARR, Columbus; several nieces and nephews.
