Jack Carter, 90, of Scottsboro, died Friday, December 3, 2010 at Highlands Medical Center in Scottsboro.

He was born near Langston, Alabama in 1920 and was the fifth of eight children of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Miller Carter and Laura Hodge Carter.

He was a WWII veteran, serving in the South Pacific, Solomon Islands and Guadacanal. After his discharge, he served as an auxiliary policeman for several years in Scottsboro and was employed for 33 years at Harbin Motor Company.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Alvin, Edna, Leldon, Carl, Billy and Hazel and 12 other brother and sister-in-laws.

Mr. Carter is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen Duncan Carter; one sister, Bertha Carter of Hilton Head, S.C.; brother-in-law, Lanier Phillips of Scottsboro; sisters-in-law, Beryl (Bill) Cooper and Sue Duncan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 1 p.m. from Rudder Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Kevin Wilburn officiating. Interment will follow in Pinehaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation is Tuesday from 12-1 p.m. at the funeral home.
