William J. Bessette, 85, died peacefully in his sleep, Friday at Mercy Hospital. He was born in New London, CT and has lived in Springfield for many years. He was Vice President of the former Stanley Handling Company. Bill was very active at the Elm-Belcher Masonic Lodge, where he was Master four times, a member of the Shriners, and their Drum Corps, the Eagles and American Legion Post 430. He served in the Army from 1946 to 1948. He leaves his wife Sharon (Szady) Bessette, three children, his brother George Bessette and his wife Jean of NY and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Calling hours will be Sunday at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. Burial at the convenience of the family.
