Born April 25, 1944, she was the daughter of Carleton and Mary Janet (Stafford) Clifton.
She served as director of nursing at Greene County General Hospital in Linton. She was a registered nurse with a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Indiana University in 1966 and she earned a master's degree from the University of Evansville in 1986. She had served as professor of nursing at Lincoln Trail College in Robinson, Ill. She was a member of the Monroe City First Church of God, where she served on the board of trustees.
Survivors include, her husand, Roger F. Small; a daughter, Amy J. Small Culbertson and her husband, Benjamin, of Murfeesboro, Tenn.; two sons, Craig Small and his wife, Mary, from Monroe City, and Eric F. Small, of Erfurt, Germany; five grandchildren, Cole, Emily and Collin Small and Blake and Brooke Culbertson.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, William Clifton.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m on Wednesday at Monroe City First Church of God with the Rev. Mark Nielson officiating. Burial will follow in the Hamlin Chapel Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Goodwin Funeral Home in Vincennes.
