Debbie graduated from Longmont High School, later moved to Berthoud where she raised her family and worked for many years at Hewlett Packard. She recently retired from her office position at Columbine Elementary where several of her grandchildren attended. After moving to live with her youngest daughter in Longmont, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were all part of her everyday life. She enjoyed spending time with them and taking long drives in her truck. She was a great cook and constantly spoiled her grandchildren with her food, so much so, that even a sandwich can be criticized that “that’s not how grandma does it.”
Debbie loved music and played the piano all her life. She played for many years at the Berthoud Foursquare Church and taught all her grandchildren basic chords to worship songs.
She loved listening to the blues, jazz and oldies. She attended several concerts with her kids and grandkids to enjoy the music of BB King, Bruno Mars, Etta James and Pitbull; whom she absolutely loved to look at.
The beach was her favorite place even though she never learned how to swim and was still reluctant around water always remembering a time when her brother-in-law
Pete threw her in a pool as a joke; she didn’t think it was funny, but loved telling the story. Debbie was able to visit the Hawaii, California, Louisiana and the Florida coasts during her retirement with her family. Her youngest grandson went with her to Hawaii and she constantly joked about finding a Samoan boyfriend all to get a rise out of her travel partner.
Debbie leaves behind three children and their families.
Debbie had four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one stepgrandchild. Debbie lived with her two youngest grandchildren. Debbie also leaves behind her sister along with many nieces, nephews and cousins whom she absolutely loved and liked about 75% of the time. Debbie is preceded in death by her sister Dolores Martinez.
Visitation will be at 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm followed immediately by a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, September 20th, 2016 at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St. Longmont. Burial will follow at Foothills Gardens of Memory at 14241 N 107th St, Longmont.
