Ed lost his father when he 11 yrs. old and always worked hard to provide for his family. He graduated from Kokomo High School in 1947 and served with United States Army during the Korean War, and was awarded the Purple Heart after losing his lower leg in combat. Ed and Beverly were married at Main Street United Methodist Church on April 28, 1951, where they remained lifelong members. He retired from Chrysler Transmission after 35 years of service.
Ed and Beverly loved to travel. Besides frequent trips to visit children and grandchildren, they made several trips to Hawaii, Myrtle Beach and Orlando. Ed and Beverly spent 10 years as snowbirds living in Tucson, AZ. On April 4, 2015 he was able to travel with his son to Washington, DC with the Indy Honor Flight. He was so thrilled to see how people responded to these veterans who served our country.
Survived by his son, Brent Shay (Terri) of Plainfield, IN; Daughters Lisa (Ed) Rhodes, and Michelle (John) Crump of Mooresville, IN, Grandchildren Monica (Jeff) Webb and great-granddaughters, Blythe and Eve Webb of Grand Rapids, MI, Blake (Shelby) Shay of Fishers, IN and Cameron Rhodes, Kylee Rhodes, Aaron Crump and Abby Crump, Mooresville, IN, Molly Crump, Ann Arbor, MI, sister Janet Love, nephew Kevin (Angie) Love, niece Karen (Tom) Moran all of Kokomo, IN, nieces Karen (Mark) Cooper, Sharpsville, IN, and Marcia (Mark) Summers, Martinsburg, West Virginia and great nephew, Kyle Love of Portland, IN.
Preceded in death by parents & his wife Beverly, daughter: Debbie Ann Shay and brother in laws, John Ferriday and Elvin Love.
Funeral services September 21, 2016 at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road, with John Crump officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Army and the Kokomo V.F.W. Military Rites Team. Private Burial will be made in New London Cemetery.
