DURAND - Horace Leonard Roper, 73, of 504 Dartmouth died last night in the Community Hospital, Durand, after being ill for the past 15 months.

Funeral services will be held at Bellows Funeral Home here Monday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Kenneth Griswold officiating. Graveside services at Oak Hill Cemetery in Owosso will be held by North Newburg Lodge 161, F. and A. M. of which Mr. Roper was a member.

He was born in Nottingham, England Dec. 23, 1884 the son of John and Martha Roper. He attended schools in England, graduating as a machinist.

He moved to Durand in 1902, where he has lived ever since. He married Zora Lovett in Owosso on April 18, 1919.

Mr. Roper worked for the Grand Truck Railroad for 50 years as a machinist and in recent years before his illness, as a roundhouse foreman.

He was a member of several organizations: Duran Chapter 139 of Royal Arch Masons, in which he had served as high priest and secretary; the American Railroad Supervisor's Detroit Diesel Club and the Railroad Veterans.

Besides his wife, Mr. Roper is survived by three daughters ; Mrs. Jane Fuja, Mrs. Eileen Nemphie and Mrs. Evelyn Perrin, all of Durand; one son, Jack of Durand; one stepson, Leo Lovett of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Alice Wilcox of New York City; one brother, Arthur of Elvira, Ohio; two brothers and one sister in England; and 15 grandchildren.
