George Jones graduated from Garner High School (NC) in 1950. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a BS in Business Administration and Marketing in 1959. He was a salesman in heating and air conditioning. After retirement, he began his own business “Trees by George”. George was a private pilot, an avid reader and outdoor enthusiast. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, boating and hiking.

George was active in Toastmasters, Rescue Squad, Lion’s Club, ASHRAE, Rotary International, Gideons International and on the Lexington County Board of Education. A member of Lexington Baptist Church, he served as deacon and trustee as well as a faithful participant in Sunday school, choir, committees and missions locally and abroad. He served as a volunteer chaplain at the Lexington County Detention Center and Kirkland prison.

George is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean Cooper Jones, two daughters, one son, and three grandchildren.
