Alfred Jenkins Creighton was born in Dartmouth in 1840, the last son of George Brinley Creighton and Isabel Ann Grassie. He married Fannie Smith Black (b New Brunswick Canada) in 1867 in Boston. They moved to Dartmouth and had 3 children; Mary Black, Alfred Bethune and Henry.
After 1891 Alfred Sr and Fannie moved back to Chicago where he was employed as an International Grain Merchant. He died in Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago, Illinois in 1919 and is buried in Rosehill Cemetery. His wife returned to Halifax, died in 1939 and is buried in Camp Hill Cemetery in Halifax.
