David Everett McAllister, 72, husband, of Janet Meeks McAllister of 59 Parkins Lane, died Friday, September 16, 2016, at his residence after a short battle with cancer. He was born June 3, 1944, in Staunton, a son of the late Guy Everett and Mary Josephine McAllister.

Prior to retirement, Mr. McAllister was employed by Preston Trucking and Adams Construction.

He was a member of Verona United Methodist Church for 60 years.

As an avid antique tractor enthusiast and puller, he was a member of the Bill Simmons Antique Tractor Club, Western Augusta Steam and Gas Club, South Western Antique Tractor Club and IH Collectors of Virginia. In addition, he was a member of the Verona Ruritan Club and Teamsters Local #29.

In addition to his wife of 50 years, family members include a son, Douglas Grant McAllister; two brothers and sisters-in-law, M. Lee and Carole McAllister of Tulsa, Oklahoma and (Bobby) Dwight McAllister and Jeanne Martino-McAllister of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Betty L Lamm of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mary Jane and Roger Ayers of Verona, and Drema and David McAllister-Wilson of Washington, DC; three grandchildren, Mariah Ann, Levi Nathaniel, and Braxton Grant McAllister; nieces and nephews, L. Gamble Pledger, Donna Peduto, David Meeks, Ashley McAllister, Wilson Moore, Carter McAllister Wilson, Brooke McAllister, and Daniel McAllister.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Juanita McAllister; and a brother-in-law, John Lamm.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, September 19, 2016, in Verona United Methodist Church by the Revs. C. Edward Pruitt, Robert Weeks, and Jeff Allen. Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jerry Cleveland, John Pardue, Steve Puffenbarger, Bobby Menefee, Bobby Kester, and Eddie Taylor.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Hartless, Zane Davenport, Roger Bowling, Bruce Smith, James Long, Robert Shuler, fellow truck drivers and other club members.

The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2016 in the Henry Funeral Home.
