Joseph J. DiMaggio, 82, a former Sewaren resident died on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at The Woodlands in Plainfield.

Born in Newark, he resided in Sewaren from 1965 until 1988; he then resided in Palmetto FL and Yorktown VA, before returning to New Jersey last year.

Joe was a school teacher in the Woodbridge Township School District before retiring in 1988; he also had been a basketball coach. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed boating.

He was predeceased by his wife Anne (nee Smith), who died in 2015. Surviving are his children Patricia, Thomas his wife Frances, Joseph and James his wife Kanae; two brothers John his wife Elaine and James his wife Sue; and 7 grandchildren.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 3-6 PM at the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home 568 Middlesex Ave. (RT 27) Metuchen. To send condolences please visit costello-runyon.com.
