Obituary
Richard J. Apostle, Sr., a longtime Nyack resident, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2003 in Leesburg, Florida, where he moved six months ago.
He was born in Englewood, NJ on September 9, 1937 to Thomas and Flora (Kiefer) Apostle.
Rich served in the United States Marine Corps from 1956-1960.
He was employed as a truck driver for McLean Trucking in Spring Valley for many years, as well as Railway Express in Blauvelt and Westwood Laundry in Westwood, NJ.
Rich was very active in the Nyack-Valley Cottage Little League and an Umpire for many leagues. He was a longtime member, Past President and ex-Captain of Chelsea Hook and Ladder Co. No. 2 of the Nyack Fire Department. Rich was also a member of the American Legion Post #310 in Nyack, NY, the Nyack Monday Morning Quarterbacks and the Rockland County Umpires Association.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret in 1977.
He is survived by his wife, Joann of Leesburg; his mother, Flora Brower of Ocoee, FL; his children: Patricia A. and John Robinson, Richard J. Apostle, Jr., Thomas P. Apostle, Anthony P. and Jennifer Farmer and Holly B. Farmer; his grandchildren: John (J. T.) Robinson, Shannon Robinson and Nathaniel Farmer. Also a brother, Ronald Apostle of Leesburg, FL; Three sisters: Catherine Apostle of France, Corrine Apostle of Monsey, NY and Susan Bell of Ocoee, FL.
Visiting hours are scheduled for Wednesday, April 16, 2-4 and and 7-9 PM at the Hannemann Funeral Home, Inc. in Nyack.
The Nyack Fire Department will hold Firematic Services at 7:30 PM. The American Legion Post #310 will hold services at 8:00 PM. A Gathering of Friends will be held on Thursday morning at 11:00 AM at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Nyack.
